I had to order this cap direct from VIRTUS as none of the European outlets had them in stock and didn't seem to be prepared to tell me when they would be back in which was a little disappointing. Only a little thing really but for the sake of e-mail replies it just made it a bit less smooth than it could have been.
Design: This is what attracted me to this cap in the first place. I like the fact that the green material can appear to be a bit grey-ish depending on what you wear with it. I suppose it is a 'Foliage Green' but not strictly so. The embellishments are great; nice and tidy. The velcro closure is not quite as tidy. The stitching and positioning is a little little hap-hazard and not finished to quite the standard i would have expected at this price point but maybe that's me being picky. I like the fact that it is not a common cap here in the UK.
Fitment: I have had a few 'trucker' style caps in the past and found the crown to sit a little high for my liking. Probably the shape of my head but the Tristan Operators Cap is low profile and sits snugly to the crown. It doesn't seem to get too low on the sides of the head like some. This works well for me as i can wear my headset/ear defenders without the crown rucking up and the ear cups surround my ears without interfering with the lower edge of the cap. It has also done away with the crown 'button' which can sometimes be pushed into the top of the head by headset/ear defender bands. This has been replaced by a square of velcro for you to attach a small patch or IR identifier. You wouldn't know it was there!.
The peak is just the right length for me and has just the right curvature as it doesn't interfere with eye protection or sunglasses (that will depend on which you wear). I use Wiley X and have used Bolle, Oakley, Revision and ESS; they all fitted well. Regrets? Yeah, should have ordered the 'Ace Of Spades' patch at the same time but forgot! ;)
